So I just installed the game on my computer (running Windows 8) and as soon as my dialogue with Morte ends, I get put into the inventory screen. I can exit out briefly, but it opens right back up again. I'm 90% certain I don't have a stuck key (none of my other programs are having issues).

Any thoughts?

It sounds like a driver issue. That's fairly common, and a simple reboot of your computer should sort it out.
