When visiting governors they don't take pirates from me. I still get the offers for payment from a pirates family but they dont take the ones that are wanted by their country.

Ive had an issue where if i have over 300,000 gold when i devide the plunder each crewman gets like 635,000 gold as their share(no matter how many crew i have) and when i restart another voyage i start with 65,000 men and 635,000 gold. I've found this doesn't make the future well. I found away around this so its not much of an issue.

Governors are giving me missions. But they never did in the original pirates.

When ending a career you get asked if you want to enter into the hall of fame. Which on the original game it would save on the same disk as the saved games. All it does in this version is keep asking you over and over. Never gets past the question.

Other than those issues the game is still fun as hell.

Yeah, well, it depends, f.e. spanish governors are interested in buying out pirates for their King.

I remember all the nations govenors took them for their kings.

Remember this is the old PC version. It was different to the old C64 version (which I flogged to death) for example, the pics are animated in the PC version, weren't in the C64 version, but the music was tons better. Anyway, the point is, there were differences between the different versions of original Pirates!.
