built a woodcutter, can't build shipwright: do i have to have 500 wood before i can build a shipwright ? thanks

You can only build a Shipwright along a section of straight line coast and it also has to be built in open waters. By this, you can't build it in a section of straight line coast that doesn't have a wide enough channel to the entry/exit water points, as it's considered an inland lake..
