Grats man. Now yuo can go build monuments for the ever after too.
well, I checked my download, by installing it into a different directory, and the original download it's self. That file is included in the download, your download must have some how lost that file.
which sucks, but you can always download it again.
Well, the file wasn't lost: there was a mss32.dll in Pharao's repertory, I just replaced it with a file of the same name from Zeus directory.
Thing is: Pharao's mss32.dll wasn't stable, Zeus' mss32.dll was.

Elandryl: Each time I try to launch the game it freezes - sometimes right at the beginning, sometimes as late as the briefing screen. In a dozen of launch, I could never get on the actual gamescreen.

I'm playing on Windows 7 64 bits. Zeus worked with this configuration , Pharaoh doesn't..
I had the same problem - furthest I got was selecting scenario. To fix it I changed the game's executable to use only one core. See my other post in this forum for details.

(I know you "fixed" it by using another mss32.dll, but this might help those who come here looking for a solution yet don't own Zeus.)

Strange thing is that when I finally happened to modify the executable without crashing the game, I discovered that it was already using only one core. And so I had to find another way to solve the problem.

Strange indeed.. What exactly do you mean by "using only one core"? A single-threaded process will only use a single core, but if the physical core being used changes (which is the default behaviour on Windows OSes for multicore CPUs - to let each core cool down a bit now and then, I guess) some older applications/games will experience problems. Running imgconfig with the parameters -a and (optionally?) -u will make sure the process stays on the same physical core throughout its execution. How did you discover that it was using only one core?

pH7: How did you discover that it was using only one core?
When I accessed the process into the task manager, I could see that paraoh*32.exe was only using the first core. But as you tell me now that a single-threaded process only use one core, I guess that was normal.
Well lucky me, when I tried to run pharaoh, i got a black screen with nothing showing on it, tried both mss32.dll fix and the uni-core one but both did nothing for me.

The thing that fixed it for me is solution suggested by Daohor.
I'm running the game on Windows 7, and I was having problems with random crashes where the music would loop the same second over and over. It would occur in the first 15 minutes of play. After trying various fixes on different sites and forums, I finally found the solution.

The only thing that would make a major impact on the number of crashes was to buy Zeus, and use the mss32.dll from that game, copy and paste it into the Pharaoh directory. Before that, I tried the mss32.dll from another game, Might and Magic VII, but Pharaoh failed to launch with an error message. I guess only some games have a compatible version of this file with Pharaoh. After using the Zeus file, the game occasionally crashes, but it usually takes hours instead of only minutes.

Anyway, I just wanted to post this here in case other people have the random crash bug with looping sound. You need to use the ms32.dll from another game. The one from Zeus works pretty well. Hopefully this helps somebody.

Hi,

I am suffering from the same problem. Pharaoh is freezing after 10 minutes of gameplay or so. I also have Zeus installed so I found the file and uploaded it.

Cheers

edit:: my native res is 1440p. I downscaled it to 1920x1080 and deactivated my wallpaper engine that was running in the background. The game runs smoothly now. I am also running it in win98 comp. mode.

Hello there,

my game is crashing every single time I open it and I've tried everything that the GOG team have suggested - DirectX 9, update driver, download the two Pharaoh files that they suggest and uninstall and reinstall and reduce the colour settings to 16-bit in compatibility mode. It has happened many times over the four years I have been playing but this time, nothing works. I see this post and have downloaded the file but as I am not clued up on computer things, just literally copy and paste it into the Pharaoh Gold file?? Thanks so much, it would be rubbish if I couldn't play this game anymore.

Oh and lastly, I think it might be related to a Windows update...usually is.

Thank you so much in advance.

I saw this on another page. Don't know much about it but it might be worth some investigation if you want to try

erikkukun - thank you so much for replying but the GOG team already told me about installing DirectX 9...hasn't worked sadly but thanks anyway.

Another thought, but you may have enabled DirectPlay already. If not, it is in control panel- programs-window features-legacy components.
