You've played Myst and Riven, so I assume graphics aren't that crucial to you. (Lol otherwise why would you be here? Ha ha.) I've seen screenshots of Amnesia and thus if you're expecting Amnesia-esque visual quality you will be disappointed. Further, this game is third-person view, if that's your thing.
However, Phantasmagoria 1 (haven't played 2 yet) is a charming game on its own merits. As long as you're willing to endure some of the gore and the scenes that got this game banned in several nations, you'll find an intriguing story, a likeable main character, and not a few puzzles. The puzzles are sort of easy, if that might disappoint you, and frankly this game predated some staples of the genre (from what I can understand), but it's the atmosphere and 'feel'/'vibe' of the game that makes it worthwhile.
All in all, this gamer would definitely recommend Phantasmagoria, but keep in mind that, as an oldie, others have used similar plots and themes since.
mrtophat101: Hi all,
Would you recommend this series to someone who enjoys Myst, Riven, Amnesia, Deus Ex? The game looks interesting, but I have never played it. Is it still fun, or would you only recommend it for 'nostalgia' reasons?
Thank you.
