When I try to hide goods for a "man of honour", I always (instantly) get caught. How can I get this to work?
Details:
- I've started a Single Game on the easiest level.
- 4 months into the game "a man of honour" asks me to hide some goods and I accept.
- A few seconds later, another letter tells me the goods are coming in 7 days to my warehouse in Luebeck, disguised as whale oil. Says I should put them with another load of whale oil.
- All right, I do that immediately. I remember 1 Load = 10 Barrels, so I stuff 10 barrels of whale oil in my trading office. (that is my warehouse, right?)
- 7 days later the goods arrive, followed 1 millisecond later by a "loss of goods" notice and a friendly "you stand accused..." letter from the pricks running the League.
I've tried the same thing with about 45 barrels, still get caught. With 1 barrel, still get caught. I've tried to put my ship in harbor, just in case that's where this idiot is delivering his stash, still get caught.
Is this supposed to work or is the game just messing with me?!? Am I missing something obvious...

Yea the trading office is your warehouse until you actually build additional warehouses for extra space. Have you built one of these, perhaps thats where the goods are going?
No luck. Loaded an old save, built a warehouse and went through it all again, still got caught. I used the same Ship<-->Office interface as before, and the barrel capacity of the Office was showing 2500 instead of 500 - so I figure I'm using the warehouse correctly.
Thanks anyway.
Hope the rest of the game is more intuitive! Maybe I'll try a campaign.

I think you need atleast a 3:1 ratio of legit goods to stolen goods for the smuggling to even be remotely successful, how many units of stolen goods are they sending you?

That was it. Smuggling successful!!
thanks
I tried this several times and even with a lot more than the three to one ratio I almost always get caught at the easiest level.
I don't think this is worth the risk of a fine or loss or reputation.
