Probably I am missing something, but in Patrician i, I seem to be regularly incurring debt from craftsmen automatically even if I did not actively take out a loan from the bank. And when I go to the bank and click on repay, it shows me the debt usually at very high interest rate like 108%, a loan which I did not take. If I clear this debt, then again some days later another debt piles up. So how is this happening?
Note: The debt is always incurred in the home city.

Those loans with ultra-high interest rates are probably taken automatically when some kind of expense has eaten up the money you have left back in your home city when leaving. Maybe you have stored goods there without having built storehouses before? Then you have to pay rent each day, just for storing the goods...

Indeed. Thanks for the response. I discovered that I was not leaving money in the office for the tax of the city which is deducted on monthly basis. So those loans were getting taken automatically to cover for my due taxes. The game is very cryptic in terms of these things, i.e. quite a few things are not explicitly explained, but left to discovery.

I also noticed another problem, by chance if you also know the answer to this... when I repair a ship, the cost that is deducted is way more than the cost that is mentioned during placing the repair ship order. In fact, I experimented by reloading a saved game, and observed that a same amount was getting deducted everytime no matter what the repair cost quoted during placing the order. Probably a bug? Or again I am overlooking something?

Not sure on the repair thing, it was probably roughly 20 years ago I played P1 the last time ;) Is the "same amount" you are refering to the total sum of costs the repair causes for you? Or do you perhaps pay a varying amount immediately and then something unexpected fix comes on top while the repair is conducted (takes days/weeks IIRC)? If it is the latter, then it *might* be caused by having to pay the crew during the repair (unless you maybe fire them manually), but as said...more guesswork then knowlegde after such a long time.
