Hi there,
I see another patch was released on 29th November according to Steam.
Is the game sufficiently stable and bug-free for me to purchase and start playing now, or should I wait for another patch or two and then purchase it in the new year?

Thanks.

There has been patch after patch after patch and the game is still broken. You should wait and keep your eye on reputable media re. whether this game has actually been fixed or not. Developer comment:

Been worth it since day one

Yeah I'm not sure game breaking bugs qualify as "Been worth it since day one".
Hopefully a few pragmatic neutrals will respond rather than biased fanboys.

Thanks.

Are you lumping a developer comment about how broken this game is as "biased fanboys"?
I've been impressed with the speed of improvement. Game went from literally unplayable, to awash with broken lighting effects, to stable with the occasional bug in a matter of weeks.

There are lot of systems and quests that can be and should be tweaked.

If you're only gonna play it once, don't buy now. If you're willing to replay, maybe.
As with just about everything released nowadays, the longer you wait the better the game will be.
It is alot better now than at release, but there are still bugs, broken quests and balance issues to sort out, so i would hold out abit longer.
Thanks guys.
Will go and replay DOS:2 as I haven't played the definitive edition.
Hopefully I'll pick this game up at the end of the year or after another patch or two.
I was in the same boat as you. I waited about 2 months after release until I bought the game (black friday sale end of November).

So far the game has been extremely fun. It's definitely hitting all the old nostalgia feels from playing Baldur's Gate back in the day.

With that said, with the good comes the bad. It definitely takes a certain type of player to enjoy this kind of game. You will be fighting the UI to some extent. Load times are bearable but not great (poor design in some areas cause you to have to go through them more often than you should). The game gives you little information to equip you to deal with all its multifaceted and deep systems. You have to be willing to spend hours online if you really want to optimize your play and understand all the systems. Unless you were already a tabletop Pathfinder player.

You will run into a myriad of bugs but they're generally pretty small (so far in chapter 2). I haven't run into anything major yet but you constantly run into something minor here or there if you look for it. I have heard it gets worse the farther into the game you get though so keep that in mind.

Still I love the game warts and all and they do seem to work at a fairly rapid pace at fixing what was essentially early access/beta -status on release.
It's been mostly okay so far. Haven't encountered too many bugs lately. My biggest complaint is that there are certain quests that are horribly broken - well, they work, but the available options railroad you into choices you may not like at all, regardless of your alignment.

Hmm. The general way works great. I solved all the quests available.
Only two were not solved at the end:
- Hellknights quest (some other name): I rejected Davos. Even as it says: "wait for further instructions", nothing happend there any more. And he was in my field of supporters at the end.
- One artisan quest, the lover one: girl is put on aggro in some other quest area. When going there, she attacks you. Cannot be changed.

Rest of the game works great. Stable. Smooth.

Ah yes: the two quests in the "house of the edge of time" i did not solve. It was not possible for me and i did spend too many hours there to be in the mood for trying to find out, if they are solveable, too. I just wanted to finish this hardcore area.
