I use a variety of the "Fire Lord" build for Tristian (Cleric/Sorc/Mystic Theurge). On certain of his spells in the spell book, there are dots or radio buttons. They don't seem to be selectable in any way. What's the significance of these?

Grey dots? They show you which spell can have metamagic feat. There's this 'metamagic' button in bottom-right corner, and if you select one of those feats during lvlup process, you'll be able to add them to one of those marked spells.
