Have been playing RPG games like this for a long time, including pen & paper, but am new to Pathfinder Kingmaker, so I set difficulty at Challenging. I'm in the very beginning of the game and my party of three is getting repeatedly slaughtered by the first group of three assassins. All of their attacks are successful sneak attacks. Is this a bug, or am I missing something?

Kingmaker is very forgiving in terms of what is considered flanking. Basically if there are two opponents engaging in melee with one of your characters, they will be considered flanking and will get their sneak attacks. As a result, Sneak Attacks are noticeably stronger in Kingmaker than they are in PnP.

Thank you, that made me realize I needed to orient my party to face them instead of standing sideways in the doorway, and I returned the favor by slaughtering them. Onwards!
