Picked the game up recently after Mandalore recommended it. I immediately ran into the problem of not being able to make custom portraits work, so here's a fix: use mouse and keyboard. For some ungodly reason, there are noticeable differences between features available in gamepad mode and keyboard mode. Mainly that keyboard can use custom portraits, while the controller gets more settings to customize while starting a playthrough, such as hiding DC and Alignment requirements for dialogue options, which I highly recommend, as it helps you roleplay.
