I d/ld Zenger's hi-res patch V3 (Thanks very much for all the hard work, BTW). I followed the instructions, selected the resolution (1280x1024 for my 16x10, 25.5" monitor), clicked to choose 'no green border', and installed the patch. Then I clicked 'exit'. It asked me if I was sure I wanted to exit and I said Yes. The next part of the instructions says to run the 'loader'. Well, I searched in the main folder where the program resides and double-clicked on the only 'LOADER' I saw. Next I'm supposed to select the resolution I want from the game 'options'. I get a green/blue circle on the screen with a guys face in it and one of the choices is 'settings' (nothing about 'options' - I know, I know, but I'm just trying to figure out what's up). Anyway, in one of the settings I can pick the resolution, but it doesn't give me a choice of any of the rez's that the patch docs tell me I will get. I can choose from 400x300, 320x240, or HI-RES. So, naturally I pick HI-RES. The game boots and it looks better than I remember it from ~11 years ago, but not all *that* great - kinda chunky, so I'm not sure what is working or what's not. Funny thing is, when I go back to change the rez by running the patch again, it keeps showing me that it's set at 640x480. No matter how many times I do this, it's always at 640x480. Out of desperation I clicked on GOG's icon for the game on my desktop and I get a msg that's something about the 'color scheme changing to Windows 7 Basic' (don't know what that means). Then the game runs, same as before.
Now, why doesn't the patch box where I set the Rez, set it at 1280x1024 and *leave it* there? What do you guys click on to run the game - the GOG icon for the game or 'LOADER' (this would mean opening up the folder every time I want to boot this up). And what's up with the 'changing to Windows 7 Basic color scheme'? Lots of questions, I know, but I loved this game way back when. I still have the box, manual, disc, and Hint Guide! I *am* using GoG's version to play. I just want to get it to look the best possible. Is there some other setting I have to re-set somewhere else in Win7? I'm not real tech savvy anymore, so a little help w/b *greatly* appreciated. Thanks very much.

The patch improves the resolution not the precision of the voxel engine or detail of the textures, that's why it still looks a bit chunky. Basically the window through wich you look at the world of Adelpha got "clearer" but the world is still the same. You could ty some .INI tweaks but if you do not know what you're doing it can hurt the performance(performance drops after a while, while initially running smoothly).

Good luck, Zengers patch is incredible but can only do so much.

Thanks a lot for the reply. A couple of questions if you don't mind...
1) Is it normal to *not* get a prompt somewhere asking for the resolution I want? As I mentioned the patch changes back to 640x480 whenever I check it and I don't get a prompt anywhere after that about the rez except what I mentioned earlier (Hi-Res, 400x300, 320x240). The instructions in the patch mention something about 'options' to change the rez exactly. I don't see this anywhere.
2) Which exact .INI file(s) helps the resolution? I do have some experience messing around with INI files in other games and my CPU/GPU are pretty fast (no problems yet maxing out *any* games). If it slows down later I could just revert back. Is there an INI file where you can actually set the Resolution?
I do realize that Zengers patch is incredible and can only do so much, I just want to make sure I'm getting as much out of it as possible. Thank you so much for your help. This particular msg board is pretty sparse right now and I definitely appreciate your response.

When installing it should prompt for a resolution(are you using the correct version?), I don't know if you can change the resolution just by the INI files, zengers patch changes more(also HUD related stuff). And a fast GPU won't help. Fast processor in terms of clockspeed helps(Multicore also doesn't help, because it's single threaded).

Good luck
soo what your saying is the screen does not get bigger it will just make it more clear and take the green visor off the sides.v3??? my screen is like 8x6 right now..please tell me its not gonna stay like that.and ive tried a different bunch of res's. dont know much about pc's ..just looking to get this screen wider or bigger

I'm not sure I understand... is the game running in a screen that is smaller than your monitor? i.e. are there black bars around the sides and top of the game screen? If that is the case, it could be that you need to change your graphics card scaling options. Right-click on your desktop and look for either your display settings... if you have an Nvidia or ATI card, it will be the Nvidia or ATI settings. From there, find something like "scaling options" or similar. You will want to set it to use scaling... the best setting is "preserve aspect ratio". That should allow the image to be "stretched" to fill your screen, rather than running in a small window in the center.

If that's not your problem, then I'm not sure. The hi-res mod should definitely make the screen "bigger" in the sense that it will render it with more pixels. But this high-pixel count will still be displaying a game with old graphics... so the voxels in the terrain are still the same size, and the texture maps are still the same resolution as they used to be. It shouuld make edges look less rough though.

Maybe the best thing would be for someone who has used the mod (I actually haven't gotten around to it yet) to post some comparison screenshots? i.e. before and after shots? Then we could see exactly what changes.
