In the starting area is a blocked entrance. You have to take the railcar on the track from Farley's house and go through the wall to the junkyard area to get the car turned around. Then back to the starting area and you have a straight shot at the clocked passage. but you can't do this if you don't open the entrance to the upper junkyard.
