Ok, so here's what I've found with limited research.
I have a newer computer that I just built. Here are the specs just so you can eliminate those things in your system.
MB: ASUS ROG Strix X690-A Gaming WiFi D4 LGA1700 (Intel 12th Gen CPU)
CPU: Intel Core i7-12700K up to 5GHz Unlocked
DIMM's: Corsair Vengence 16GBx2 total 32GB
OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bit (up to date)
The entire system is 64bit
OK, I entered the Obduction upgrade path @ v1.7.2. This version ran on my old Windows 7 64bit system and it runs on my new system mentioned above, though I can't say if it'll crash or not at some particular stage in the game. I just saw that it loaded and found myself walking in the forest, which is where you first find yourself in the game.
I also have several patch's from v1.7.2 to v1.8.4.1-ssl but I've only recently tried the two full install versions I have, which are v1.7.2 and v1.8.4.1.
I'm pretty sure that I used at least a couple of the patch's from v1.7.2 upwards, but it was so long ago, (2019), yep at my age that's a long time ago, ;-) such that I can't remember exactly which ones.
Anyway, v1.8.4.1 will not run, while v1.7.2 will. I tried both today, "Thursday June 23 2022."
The funny thing, at least from my perspective, is that GoG currently only offers v1.8.4.1-ssl.
While this is purely conjecture on my part, based solely upon a logical conclusion, taking all valid premises into account, I'd say either v1.8.4.1 is bad or will only run while an internet connection is active. I've not tried the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) port 443, version yet because I won't do online games, ever!
No, I won't give you copies of my working full version or any of the incremental patch's, not to be mean or all high and mighty, but all of our contracts are between ourselves and GoG. If you paid for the "Working Game" GoG is who you need to talk to.
I don't see why GoG doesn't leave the older versions on their site for just this reason.
I hope this helped all you guys/gals/others!
Peace and happy gaming!
