Has anyone actually found anything that helps to keep terrain from regenerating in your base yet? Anytime I'm away from my base, when I return it looks like my son's bedroom...

No, but the experimental patch, which still yet to arrive here at GOG, addresses this issue:

"Improved the terrain edit saving system, reducing the chance of terrain regenerating. Further improvements to this system are in progress."
