The ability to install tech and updates in general inventory was by design and has been coded that way for a long, long time. The default exosuit has limited technology slots. Players could add tech to the general inventory if they wanted to trade inventory space for technology upgrades.

There was simply no need to change the tech upgrade capabilities.

Removing "General" in favour of a single Tech and single Cargo inventory, sure that makes some sense.
The tech upgrades being what they were didn't provide a negative to any single player, and the only people who really leaned into them were players who'd reached/passed endgame stage. If people didn't/don't want to do that - they could always not do it. What's been taken away is a choice for some players who did want to do it for no good reason.

That aside, the update for 4.03 (94588) came down through Galaxy and it's available through the offline installers on the website as well. It looks like the wait was long enough that we snagged some of the fixes like a couple of people suggested :)

A toggle to disable Flash to White transitions has been added! Finally! I used to mod that out, which amounted to simply editing a couple values in a text file, so it's nice that I don't have to bother with that anymore.

I do prefer this verison of the inventory/tech system. It's simpler to manage and look at, while also giving a greater purpose to the storage containers/ship/freighter, especially in survival mode.

Pretty cool the way the challenge mode settings work now.

They definitely read the submissions to their Zen Desk and act upon them. Several things I have put in there over the years are now in the game. That's pretty awesome!
