Is anyone able to connect to the online services?

Mine has said disconnected since I started it the first time so wondering if its just down or if I need to open ports or something stupid.

I've got the same issue. "could not connect to online services, press x (b) to connect" which.. exits the menu hah!

I was getting this for while but it's been working recently. Servers are probally getting hammered.

Same here. Not able to connect to their servers. Is GoG missing a patch perhaps?

We can expect a lot of these kinds of errors when a hugely hyped game is in its first hours or days. Nearly EVERY single person who has bought the game, which will be 6 or even 7 figures, will be trying to access online at the exact same time. This is just the norm reaction to an incredible demand on resources, let alone for an indie game!

Though I wondered if it was because I'm not using GOG Galaxy.

My online services just came up for the first time! It was on for around a minute, but, my name changed from Explorer to mr0il!

edit: originally installed manually, later reinstalled and started using Galaxy.

Absolutely the same here. Originally manual, now through Galaxy.

Is galaxy required to be online? Is that why I can't connect?

First play session I ran game just desktop icon... next play session through galaxy...

Both times I had no problems uploading discoveries...

The only difference is first time without galaxy my time on game wasn't logged... shrug

I believe so. I started to get very concerned about the lack of a username and discoveries as I got further into the game. I had like 2.5mil and I was ready to start over if necessary, because I really want to someday find something that someone else has already found. So, I checked around here and on Reddit. So far I've only read one anecdote where someone with a manual install got a user name and that same user noted that he had Galaxy running.

Also, after connected, the error message for being disconnected changes. When you're running without Galaxy, there is a prompt to "press X" to reconnect. Pressing X does nothing except fire off a sound effect. When you're running Galaxy and you get disconnected, there's no prompt to press X, instead the game just tries to reconnect automatically.

I don't know the answer to that specific question, but what I can say is...

Earlier today, I was pressing X like a madman and it would never connect to online services. Now, under Galaxy I have a constant green circle, showing I am connected.

NB: Earlier, even when I wasn't connected, it was telling me I was uploading things, but I suspect it was just saving them somewhere for the next time I could connect... or it was lying.

As I said earlier, it could be the case that the servers aren't as hammered right now which is why I can log on and it has nothing to do with Galaxy at all... or it has everything to do with Galaxy.

I can't advise you what to do, but I know if you go on Galaxy now you'll likely be connected, and have your GOG name as your in game name rather than just 'Explorer'.

Has anyone found any sort of fix for the game showing you as "Explorer"? It has never once shown my correct name whether running through GoG Galaxy or not. I even tried uninstalling, telling it to remove all user data, and reinstalling, starting over completely from scratch even with keyboard bindings and I'm still just "Explorer." Also, it has never been online at all in all the time I've been playing -- it has been 100% offline with the "press X to reconnect" message for me even playing through GoG Galaxy. (And of course pressing X over and over does exactly nothing but play a sound effect for a split second.) It's also not doing any stuff like achievements or whatever if GoG Galaxy actually supports that (I noticed there are achievements in the overview section anyway, but I don't know if it supports it yet.)

Online services only worked with the gog galaxy version for me.

This is my first Gog game, do you guys know if I download galaxy and install NMS from there, can I use my current save file? do I have to copy it anywhere? or will installing the galaxy version screw me completely?
