dashiichi: The old tricks for making smooth transitions to/from landing pads don't work now that the pads have been super-sized. And they may change again! But in the meantime, here's one way of getting a set of stairs to smoothly attach to a landing pad.
This was taken in Creative mode, so there are some strange builds lying around the landscape. But at least now I can get back up to the landing pad in spite of the wimpy Creative mode jetpack.
ksj8ak2: Thanks for the tip. The support structure looks insanely cool -- I think I'll steal that :)
Edit: Just tried it (in 2.09.3 / Survival). I can't snap anything to the top or bottom of the landing pads. I can only connect structures to the sides :/
Dang! You're right. As of 2.09.3 nothing snaps to the bottom of the landing pads. The good news is that landing pads snap nicely to each other, now, as well as automatically generating an apron when an arch or corridor is attached to the side.
So you can easily make a 10 x 10 array of landing pads for your invasion fleet... ;-)
But I don't see an easy way to add a decent looking foundation under one in the latest update. It's possible to work stuff underneath by starting from the edge of the apron and working down. Unfortunately, that isn't symmetric since a row of full or half sized floor pieces doesn't mirror from the center.
The bums!
