A: Okay guys, next is running. How do you think we implement that best ?
B: Well we could do it like everbody else and make them run by default, only walking if they press a walking key or if they exhausted their stamina.
A: Too boring and predictable. We are not "everybody" after all. People should notice they're playing an unusual game.
C: In the interest of intuitivity, we could make running like boosting the starship, you press SHIFT and you run.
A: Oh but that would make sense. No, we cannot repeat ideas we outselves already used before either. It has to have a unique interface, just like every inventory in the game works differently. People will have to run a lot. It should require effort, not come naturally.
D: How about instead of having to press SHIFT, we make SHIFT a toggle ?
A: Hey thats an awesome idea ! Nobody else uses SHIFT as a toggle ! We'll do that, for certain !
C: But isnt there already a CAPSLOCK key to toggle SHIFT ?
A: Dont be a spoilsport because we dont use your idea.
E: Well if SHIFT is a toggle, how about we keep forgetting that the player is in running mode ? This way every time they have to press SHIFT when they start walking in order to start running.
A: Hey, thats another great idea ! Now the players truely will suffer ! Keep it coming guys !
F: Well we could not give the player any feedback if he is in running mode or not, other than checking the animation.
G: We could also randomly turn of running all the time. Of course when they stop walking for a split second. But also for example in terrain thats too steep. Then the player has to guess again and again if they have to press SHIFT in order to run.
A: Awesome ! Awesome ! Awesome ! I knew we could make this needlessly complicated and inefficient and stupid ! Lets do exactly all that ! This will be the greatest game ever !
