Same problem!!
Albeit I didn't have this problem, here's how I updated my NMS installation. Maybe doing it that way saved me from trouble so far.

1. Deinstall NMS
2. Move C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames to a safe place. Move. Not copy.
3. Install NMS
4. Start NMS, try to start a new game, play a little with the settings
5. Replace the new C:\Users\<myusername>\AppData\Roaming\HelloGames with my original folder, which I moved in step 2

Oh, and I updated my graphics driver before step 1 and rebooted.

Edit: Typo

Updating my nvidia drivers fixed this issue for me. I also deleted the Appdata folder and disabled cloud saves but the game wouldn't load until updating the driver.

Was running 416. Now 431.60.

Hey Ks8ak2, thanks for the info and advice, same to all who reply and try to help , but seriously guys WHY TF should we have to do all this just to make this bloody thing work. yet again? WTF did you pay far a game, or ongoing PC Lessons?

Bout time you got organised and give these F ers some direct greif? what a joke CTD in this day and age.
Hope angry Joe trys it again?
Yeah all that move directory mumbojumbo didn't have any effect. It's the display drivers that need to be updated, that's all. It's still buggy, however, and crashes will still happen. But at launch, that's a sign that the new (and pretty jank) Vulcan implementation didn't work with your current drivers.
Considering how long it can take to download, properly uninstall, reboot, install, reboot and check the settings before being able to see whether or not the new driver fixed anything and didn't break anything else like the terabytes worth of other games I have installed, it really should be required to always provide patch notes and start them by specifying the GPU driver versions that have been used for testing the latest release.
I have same problem :(

Thanks, but it doesn't work for me. I have tried with 431.60.
Is GeForce Experience necessary?

Anyway, I'm waiting for official fix.

Edit: Antivirus software(Comodo HIPS) have prevented NMS.exe from editing registry. I changed the settings and now game works. thanks :)
