So I encountered a problem back at the beginning of the expedition, after about a week of playing, the community research progress topped out, and everything was unlocked. Neat! I did some missions to help, and now had all the unlocks. But one day I booted up NMS and the research meter had been set back to 0. I wasn't too worried, as there were 5 weeks left in the expedition. But now the expedition is drawing to an end, and I only just got tier 2 unlocked. I DID submit a trouble ticket with HG, but have heard nothing back about it yet, and the only things that I have found as fixes are for problems that were back in 2020/21. I did try those "fixes", but no luck for me.

Overall this problem doesn't make the game unplayable by any means, just kind of a disappointment that I may not be at tier 4 with others when the expedition ends.

Hi, I think you're getting Community Research confused with the Expedition. Community Research happens independently of the Expedition, and they're happening like every week or so. To unlock stuff in the Expedition, you do the Expedition. I haven't done Community Research missions yet myself, but I believe they are just unlocked for everyone. That progress meter goes up for me all the time and I have never contributed to it.

To get those unlocked things (whether by the Expedition or Community Research), you spend Quicksilver, a currency that you obtain by doing various things, but especially missions in the Nexus.

I could be wrong on all this, so maybe someone deeper into the game can confirm.

Thank you, I indeed was. This is the first time I've played in years, either since the introduction of expeditions, or I played between them last time, but either way they were both new features to me and I just assumed they were intertwined. But it definitely seems you are correct, and would also completely explain why it reset at the beginning of a week and also why I couldn't find any mention to anybody else having the "bug/issue"
