I have no idea if this works and I cannot attest to any of it's accuracy or content, all I can say is
"I was looking on Reddit, and I found this"

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/4xk0od/fix_for_video_card_without_opengl_45/

Apparently this user modified files to bypass the open GL 4.5 check. Maybe it will work ? I don't know. Might cause other problems but at least people are checking and digging deeper .
This should bypass the check, but anything that relies on a 4.5 feature or change to the API will cause it to crash.
Has any one found an actual fix for this? -_-
One that doe's not crash the game?
There is no "fix" to this. The developers would have to make concessions about 4.5 features and remove them from their code or only use those features if the user supports that version.

Ya buy the proper hardware for the requirements?
This solution works for me with an ATI HD6950 (8 houres wothout problem).
The 6xxx-series is nearly OGL4.5 compatible (10 out of 11 features work), so give it a try.
I can also confirm that this works on a Radeon HD 6870. My CPU is an i5-2500k and I have 8 GB RAM. Crashed at white screen before. Now I've played for 6 hours (off and on) without a crash.

I did tweak the gfx settings a bit to help with FPS, but the game is playable for me. Turn off v-sync, g-sync (in the graphic settings file in the Binaries directory), borderless on, and Max FPS to Max. You can also mess with the detail/texture settings to find something that works. I turned shadow and reflection to low but I'm not sure how much of a difference it made.

I haven't checked what my FPS is but I haven't been annoyed by it other than a few times it froze while entering my ship (but not every time).
Are they going to patch a fix for this, or is the Open GL problem going to be a reason why I never get to play this game. I cannot afford a better computer.

I'm hoping they will. Someone on reddit has hacked the NMS exe to bypass the check that is causing the white screen crash. They emailed Hello Games to let them know what is causing the crash, so we'll see.

Rahly (post above) is spot on. This is a temp solution at best. When the game makes a call for actual openGL4.5 functions and your driver and/or card does not support them, it is highly likely to cause issues.

I have not tried the open GL check bypass.
Clearly the best thing is update your drivers and hope that it gives you openGL4.5 because if they don't, Hello Games needs to update their code or GoG will have to give you a refund because during preorders there was nothing on the requirements list on GoG saying openGL4.5 compatible card was required.

Nothing on Hello Games news section. Last update there was 12th August.
