Are you able to properly decrypt and move the files from the soundtrack-zip?
I downloaded it twice and the zip seems to be broken somehow, some single tracks and the cover are working but at least one file in there seems to be corrupted.

Is it just some odd problem with my system?

Are you sure you didn't have a corrupt download? Have you tried using the GOG downloader? I just tested both archives (NWN1 & NWN2) and they both test with no errors. Maybe try another archiver, like 7zip?

Compare your MD5 checksums with mine to identify a corrupt download:

nvn_soundtrack.zip (as of today)
MD5: 6ccfd4bd446ac6f5ca9bc4b8937a04a7

nwn_2_complete_soundtracks.zip (as of today)
