Well, maybe I miss something and would like others to clarify the dark spots.
All things here are about the Linux port of NWN:EE.
1) "on Linux still with version 78.8186.1" ???
On 30th July 2020 I installed 80_8193_13_38276 on Linux.
Few hours ago I found (by chance - see next point) the new
version 81_8193_16_41300.
So how can anyone see 78.8186.1 in Sep. 2020?
[Assuming that all Linux users use the Games topic under the logged in user,
i.e. offline installation download - not the DRM GOG Galaxy client.]
2) Some days later on Linux is not that bad - the fastest OS which
`nearly' never crashes by itself makes it easy to work it out really fast. ;)
But I looked for it after the announcement and found nothing.
I still got no info about updates (no number above or blue dot next
to the game tile title) on the library page (offline installer) - but
now it is there - but still not presented as Update.
I think that this is a real problem if happening frequently - with several hundred games
to look for updates it would be a mess ...
Has anyone else experienced that kind of trouble?
3) I am still angry about not having fullscreen mode.
As all (even badly written) games have fullscreen/window toggle (all Unity games and also
those special game engines of some developers) - even DOS-Box,
I would not call the Linux port beta - it is only alpha.
Any information available if Beamdog is working on it?
I just spotted now under UI options that resolution is 3840x2101 for 4k.
Can one be sure that everything is displayed now?
The fonts are readable, but still tiny (on an 31.5" 4k screen ...) - I have
not experienced this with other games ... what are they doing or is there
something I have to change in options (while all other games does the
right thing automatically)?
As NWN:EE was released 2018 (I am working with 4k since March 2015) and
that bug [missing fullscreen] was noticed directly and it was even announced as fixed
(by fullscreen standard - no window mode) and then revoked ... I thought code must
be reworked in a huge way to run on current HW.
But now they are playing with lighting while the game experience is worse
than with DOS games under DOS-Box?
Am I missing something or do they really have problems to prioritize in a sane way?
4) My impression is that the new lighting is better - but that now the appearance
is inconsistent ... so all 3D models should be changed ...
Would like to hear if others find it smooth and still fitting to this game.
Thanks in advance for any experience concerning the four points here - would be interesting
if I am alone in those findings or even missed options to correct for the problems - or at least
know that I am not alone and should try to reach out for Beamdog to get an explanation or
some help/workarounds for reasonable resolutions (will be funny when 8k will come ...
would have expected to be already there ... as DP 2.0 was said to be available end of 2020 -
But it's not Christmas yet ;).
