I have a really hard time making NWN work with Steam overlay. Actually I don't think it's possible at all, but I would like to eliminate all the options before giving up. What I have tried and has not work:

- Elevating Steam's privileges in order to get it higher than NWN, since it requires UAC.
- Disabling UAC at all.
- Running NWN in windowed mode.
- I have tried adding all the different .exe's in the NWN installation folder as non-Steam apps, nothing works.

Nothing seems to do the trick. The reason that I want to make it work is to be able to stream NWN over my Steam Link. Without Steam overlay, there's no Steam Big Picture working correctly and thus no streaming possible. Also, the Steam Controller does not work without Steam overlay, setting the key bindings and all that.

Any thoughts on solving the problem? Has anyone been able to make NWN show Steam overlay and how?

I'm just wondering, has anyone got the Steam Overlay working with this game? I can't seem to get it to work after trying the things the original poster here tried and I'm curious if there is anything else to try. Thanks!

I have.

Make sure you start steam by right clicking it and saying "Run as administrator".

Then launch NWN adding it to your library using the "Add a Game..." option and browsing to the nwn.exe

like OP, i've tried various exe and admin/without admin. but steam overlay does not hook.
