So I've recently figuerd that I want to play Neverwinter Nights again after playing it about 12yrs ago for the last time.
I bought it through GOG (few days back) and I experience a glitch/bug that I've never encountered before!

NPCs are randomly starting to attack me even when I didn't initiate combat with them.
I don't recall having this issue when I've played the game all these years ago.

So getting to the topic. It first happened to me when I've reached the Vengaul's woman that was being interrogated in tthe Docks. As soon as I've entered the room she was hostile towards me and I had to kill her instead of being able to talk with her after killing 2 pirates that were interrogating her.

Now I'm after my last Waterdeep animal in the Peninsula and this glitch just went completely haywire! City Watch starts attacking me as soon as I engage in ANY combat with the prisoners.
I've met a guy on the street in Peninslua named "Master John" calling for help (and I recall that you were actually able to help him from my previous playthrough all these years back) and he suddenly turns hostile and attacks me because some prisoners are running at me :(.

Did anyone else experienced such an awful bug? Everyone in the Peninsula just turned hostile! I didn't do anything wrong like murdering good people etc. since I started playing. I was also only doing good stuff for people.

How am I to proceed further if my only choice now is to murder EVERYBODY in Peninsula, including City Watch?

But again it isn't only restricted to Peninsula as people in other parts of the city that are normally friendly were randomly attacking me as well.

I'm at a complete loss here and I don't know what to do about it. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it :).

Your reputation is completely bugged. It may be b/c some AOE hit a friendly, or it could be a huge hiccup in a save file or memory.

Either way, there is a fix. But what it is, I do not know. :)

If you have 2 computers, you could attempt to log in as a DM and set the faction of your PC as Commoner. That can have horrible things happen, too, though. And there is a better way to do it, I just can't remember what it is.

You may want to do some googling around. Some keywords that will help you are:

reputation
faction
global faction

Someone here will know how to fix it, though. And in a few days, I may be able to find the solution. There's surely a script you can run or variable you can change to fix your faction.
NWN is notorious for having such faction issues. Best solution is to reload an earlier save game. Next time around, keep multiple save games around and reload as soon as something is amiss.

Another solution that can, sometimes, work is to let the NPCs kill you and then respawn. Respawning often fixes these issues. You'll lose some gold and XP, but that's a small price to pay. (And can be cheated back)
I don't get this glitch at all anymore. I was just standing in Peninsula, there was a Helmite priest on one side of the street and a City Watch guard on the other, then a prisoner showed up, priest killed him and then turned around, ran at the guard and killed him as well. Afterwards I could normally talk with him like nothing happened.

Did one of the game patches broke the game by introducing such huge glitches?

Like I was writing above, I haven't experienced something like that at all when I played the game last time around 2002-3.

I also got a question to you Tallima: How is that possible that all factions got pretty much haywire?
I say all, as the Helmite attacking the guard was just one of the few examples I could give of this happening.

It's not from a patch. But strange things do sometimes happen.

The OC uses global factions. Your PC is it's own faction, and then you have four other factions for guards, regular NPCs, hostiles, and shopkeepers. So if something happens between any member of those factions, faction statuses change. It's always been like that, but most people don't have issues with them usually. But every now and then, something comes up. And it's usually from accidentally damaging someone.

Thing is that I haven't hurt any civillian. I've been only finishing quests by doing good stuff and making good moral choices.

I guess I'm just going to abandon this trip to my childhood and play something else.

Thanks for the help anyways guys ;).
I was having same issues with the game. Just was trying to teleport to the main hall to drop my loot and suddenly everyone acts like I slept with their sister. Thou I do have a theory. I had two characters and i mostly got hostile NPCs a while after I dropped some crap into that magic pool. Maybe I wasnt suppose to put my stuff zombie and criminal blood
socked in that pool of magic water. I will try this theory some time later after I have will to play it again.
