natranr: so I have a saved game after some time of playing around, and when I went back in to load the game, the game crashed.
Sometimes save screenshot gets corrupted. Go to your save folder and remove any image files (like .bmp or .tga, can't remember which one is used in NWN). Make a backup to be on a safe side.

That's in case turning off shiny water doesn't work.

portrait is not read from save file but from Portraits folder. Even after deleting it from save directory, it should appear normally in-game.
