The best I've found so far is Baldur's Gate: The Sword Coast Chronicles. It is good, but not quite the one I am looking for. I wondered what servers people here on the GOG forums like.
Not sure what kind of player you are, but if you like action, professionally developed, solid story, and RP potential that isn't mandatory, check out NWN2 Cormyrean Expanse / Realms of Trinity. Forgotten Realms based, post spell-plague. There are full campaign trailers on YouTube, just search for Realms of Trinity or Cormyrean Expanse.

If you like Lord of the Rings / Tolkein based works, check out Middle Earth - Unfinished Tales
Thank you, I''m kind of a D&D purist when it comes to the Neverwinter Nights games. I will look at that first one you mention. It is so much harder to find good servers for NWN2.

One thing I am looking for right out of the gate is decent area design. I don't think I'll be able to enjoy Realms of Trinity for that reason.

I can assure you that RoT has some of the best designed areas in NWN2 Multiplayer. Most areas have been professionally developed by artists and full of environmental effects not found anywhere else, including the core NWN2 game itself. If you seen either of the trailers listed, and feel it isn't up to your standard, that's perfectly fine, too. Good luck and welcome to the NWN2 community.

One more server comes to mind that you might enjoy, is Tales of Amn. It is in it's beta phase still, but has a pretty big following and is very good. I interviewed the creators in Episode 172 of the Neverwinter Nights Podcast, which will air on 2/16/2013.

I have been playing on The Known Lands for about two years now. The server uses a custom world instead of the standard Forgotten Realms. The thing I really like about the server is their adventuring party system which allows you to sign up for events with a regular group of players and a regular DM. I normally find this hard to do on PWs.

My favourite would have to be Sundren. In the beginning all it really had going for it were the beautifully detailed areas, with very little custom content, but they've been slowly and steadily building things up over the years.

I wouldn't play there if you're in it for the Epic levels, as there is a soft cap at level 20 and Epic spells don't exist. The RP is good though, as are the areas and enemies, and pretty much all the classes have been re-balanced to be useful whilst not being overpowered.

It's also fairly low magic..but I kinda like that. Combat is more dependent on your skill than on your +5 vorpal sword of +4d6 fire +4d6 sonic damage :D
