Hello, so I tried enabling EAX in Uru: CC by following the instructions on PCGamingWiki, but can't hear any difference.

Is there a way to tell for sure whether it works? I can't find any area where I can hear e.g. my footsteps reverberate.

I simply installed the beta patch for widescreen, the fix for EAX, and the two DLLs needed for DSOAL. Did I miss something?

Given that EAX is a moribund technology, (last release in 2005), you might have to give OpenAL Soft a try. It's basically a software emulator for that sort of thing.

I don't know if it works, because I'm using Wine, which implements EAX at a software level as well.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I think I'll have to quote the DSOAL GitHub description here: "A DirectSound DLL replacer that enables surround sound, HRTF, and EAX support via OpenAL Soft"

In other words, one of the DLLs required by DSOAL is the OpenAL Soft implementation of OpenAL, which I've copied over and is named according to the specification of DSOAL.

I'm no authority on the subject, but I imagine that if OpenAL Soft provided drop-in DirectSound replacement DLLs itself, that there would be no need for a separate project like DSOAL. Am I mistaken?

For clarity's sake, the phrase, "I don't know if it works, because I'm using Wine, which implements EAX at a software level as well." more clearly expands to define as, "I don't know if OpenAL Soft works in any major capacity because I'm using a translation framework for Linux that translates the system calls of Windows. I haven't use Windows in a mainline sense for over half a decade."
Do you happen to know how to tell whether EAX works or not in Uru: CC? Any particular game area where I should be able to tell if it works? I can't find any area where I can hear reverb, for instance.

Worked for me.
