ranjean2003: I clicked on the link above. The directions on modifying Quicktime settings do not jibe with what appears in my control panel for Windows 7 32 bit. Specifically, the "audio" tab does not take me to any video settings, and the choices are not the same as described in the link.
DeMignon: The "Advanced"-tab shows a "Video" section. Choose "Safe mode (GDI only)" there. On the "Audio"-tab you can try the "waveOut" option instead of "Direct Sound".
(I tested this with
QuickTime 7 (7.7.4) on Windows 7 32bit)
Thank you for your reply DeMignon. As I noted, I thought I had things working properly by installing Quicktime 6.xx. But I am having troubles with the system crashing in the Clock Tower (as noted on another thread).
I will keep experimenting with Quicktime versions. One problem I had when I clicked on the link provided by this site, apple installs a Quicktime version labeled "32 bit" even though my computer is a 64 bit.
So I will muck around a bit more and anybody is welcome to chime in with helpful advice.
SUCCESS!!!! Followed DeMignon's instructions above after reinstalling Quicktime 7. Now intro video plays and Clock Tower no longer freezes. So, if I remember, correct changes I made besides that were right clicking on Myst shortcut icon, and selecting XP service pack 3 and one or two other recommended changes there for all users.
HOWEVER!!! Still a problem with gameplay. See "Crashes in Clock Tower" thread.
