From what I understand: Steam basically allows devs to do whatever without having to pass through certification or even a test including updates whiel GOG usually requires people to submit any fixes or patches even if they just skim them it still not quite immediate, since the main purpose of the demo seems to have been testing various compatibility stuff they probably wanted to be able to upload any fix immediately without need to jump trough hoops.
