I've noticed my Ninja has consistantly had around double the XP of my other characters (all the others have the exact same, as none of them have died). I'm thinking he's getting XP every time he uses Thievery, since that's the only thing he's doing that the others aren't. And since I'm presently in the Dwarf Mines, he's doing alot of searching/disarming.
Does anyone know the exact mechanics of the XP? Like, is it only given when successful (eg, no XP if a trap blows up)?
Thanks in advance.

You get only XP for picking locks, it doesn't matter whether you set up the trap or need several attempts.
So in Xeen, the Ninja/Robber will gain more experience than all other classes 99% of the time...1% of the time maybe not gaining experience if he keeps getting killed & missing out on some fights, of course.
Quite interesting, I'm surprised I forgot this in the 15 years or so since I first played Xeen.
