I am trying to play MM6, 7 and 8 on a dual-screen system, but need to play in window mode so I can have something else running on the other screen. However, I have the following problems running each in a window (i.e., by pressing F4):

MM6: the window is so small I basically can't work with anything in the game, and the resolution is poorer than if running it normally. I cannot resize.

MM7: will not run in window mode at all.

MM8: runs in about a 1/2-screen window, but the control buttons are as if in full screen, so the game is basically unplayable.

How can I reconfigure each game so as to be able to run in a window of the size I choose?
These games long predate multi-monitor systems, remember. My advice would be to disable your other monitor temporarily and then get the game running like you like it on your main monitor, and only after you've done that, then re-enable the other monitor(s), and take it from there...
That didn't seem to work ... just had the same result as before. I was able to get them all into windows, but then they were too small to be effective (and didn't work anyway ... the buttons didn't operate). Is there a way to reconfigure the game so it'll work in windows?
Check the unofficial patches in the sticky thread. I think they may add better support for windowed mode.

The game actually has a switch for that function. F4 is the toggle to use after the game is running to move the game between windowed mode and full screen. Works perfectly for me (Win8.1x64.) Are you running the game in 3d mode, or in software--I'm running it in 3d. You can even use a program like MM7restool.exe to size the windows you want above 640x480--I run the game using MM7restool.exe @ 1280x960--on top of my monitor's native 1920x1200 res. Using F4 you can seamlessly switch between windowed and fullscreen.

OK, I just read that you tried F4 already and that it works. The *only* way to get a bigger window is to resize the game output using MM7restool.exe.

Where can I find that file? I couldn't find it in a sticky thread, or even by a Google search.

See this post. Edit the batch file and set your resolution.
Trouble I'm having with this now: in Win8.1, I have to run compatibility mode for something far lower. When I hit F4 for the window, the system not only crashes but won't restart, and I have to uninstall/reinstall to get it to work again. (Just for good measure, I'm reinstalling greyface2.0 as well.) Anything I can do to get the window mode to work again?
