Was doing a King's Quest but once I went to turn it in, I couldn't get into the castle, I must have accidentally sold or dropped the pass at some point. (You see, I was buying a lot of skill potions, and instead of using them completely I would use it four times then sell what's left back for half-price. And those I did use completely I'd toss, I must have done "something" with the Merchant's pass when I was messing around with them.) Seeing as I can't preload a previous save I just started over from scratch, and deleted my previous party from my roster (because only having 6 members on my roster makes it less of a hassle when loading my game) but I forgot to transfer my good weapons and armour to my next party >_<

Also, I honestly wasn't sure if the game would reset upon starting a new party, (Despite I'm certain it obviously would) for example, if I started a new party, would the items like Ruby Whistle and Merchants pass respawn? If so I could have just gotten the pass as soon as possible and transferred it to my older party. But I honestly wasn't sure, so I just uninstalled and reinstalled to start off completely from scratch, as now that I know what I'm supposed to be doing, I have a head start, especially with the tons of mapping I did with my last party. (In turn, with all the mapping I was doing, and just wandering aimlessly for a long while figuring out what to do, added a few unnecessary years to my characters)

The game has rather simple mechanics. When you go to the place where you found the Merchant Pass it will just do a Check If In Party's Inventory. If it's not it will be there to be picked up again. If not it's no longer there. Goes for all quest items AFAIK.
So you can't lose quest items permanently.

.......... I should have posted my issue before I acted. But to be honest, I'm actually happy I started over, as like I said, with tons of mapping out of the way and now that I know many paths I can take, I'll get back to where I was soon enough. As the aging feature is the closest thing the game has to a "time limit"

I even found a Halberd on the second monster I fought. Making early battles much more of a breeze.
(Though I seem to recall a treasure within a hidden wall in the NW corner of Sorpigal, that may have been it.)

In MM1 aging only happens when you train or as effect of getting hit by special monsters.
Aging can also be caused by casting certain cleric spells but there are ways to reverse it.....
I recently gave up on that game.

I got the Gold key and did not use it for a while and it disappeared.
So i went to get another. I went to the wizard got the vellum scroll but when I went to find the wizard in Erliquim- he was not there.
I went back to the spiral hallway and could not find the key. I defeated the monster (Minaturs) in the castle- but still no key. I tried to visit Zom and Zam- but got no hints from them. So I dropped the ruby whistle to see if that would work and no go.

I didn't want to start again so I went to M and M 2 gates to another world.

I advise you not to go and get the gold key until you are ready to use it.... Do not go to an inn until after you have used the key to unlock the door. Go straight from the gold key to the castle you will need it. The gold key will disappear and will you will not be able to get another.

I bought my game off Abadonia and it has a bug

No, this can't happen. Not the way this game works. There are no saves, the game is not modified in any way, so there is absolutely no way for it to remember whether you got the key or not. I verified it myself, and you can get it as many times as you want.

Either
a) You're not looking in the right place for the wizard Agar in Erliquin.
b) The copy off Abandonia is not the original game but some port/remake. But I see no reason for that to be the case. Also, I just checked Aabandonia, and it's not possible to buy the game there, they just redirect you to GOG.com. Did you buy the game from GOG then (if so it's definitely NOT bugged), or did you get it from a dodgy site pretending to be Abandonia.
Well I have tried and tried and tried. I have triple checked that Agar is behind the Inn , in the secret room. You have to go through the wall and the spell light will not work. I tried going in and out of the Inn first. I even used the spell delete quest- then went back to the wizard in Sorpigal and he said that he will give me the quest again and another scroll.

If you read the walkthrough by Schultz he mentions this problem. I am not the first to get this issue. I read the manual/cluebook and it too says that the gold key has a habit of disappearing.

I bought the game from GOG that is how I found this forum. I had to download a gog downloader. You are right in that I was redirected to gog.

Interesting. I've never come across this.

If you want, I suppose you could use an editor to give yourself the key, if you want to continue with the game.
Well I am now doing M&M2.

But please, explain to me how to use editor. I can remember about 10 years ago some of the players where going into dos and giving their knights spell points.

I found this

You have information on which bytes to edit, though the exact value for the golden ring is not given, so looks like you have to try them one by one.

If you're not comfortable hex editing your files, just post your roster file here and I'll see what I can do.

Make sure that your first character (character in slot 1) is carrying the vellum scroll. That may be necessary.

Interesting. I've never encountered that bug. Have you tried taking the vellum scroll straight to Telgoran in Dusk? Maybe that will continue the quest chain?

Since you dropped the Ruby Whistle, have you tried going back to find it again (the place where you originally found it)? Does that trigger anything? You mentioned you tried fighting the minotaur and returning to the spiral hallway, but did you actually find the dog statue again? That's where the gold key is located, I don't think it's necessary to fight the MInotaur to get it.
Thanks ZFR and thanks Walt. I am presently half way through M&M2. I will probably come back to M&M1 at a later date.
UNI starts soon and also I am applying for work in the Pilbara- the shifts will be long. I will come back to this is time.

Thanks for the photobucket assistance. I will keep that in favorites until I need it. I will try that ruby whistle trick to see if the quest will pick up there. Yes I did get the gold key BEFORE I killed the Minotuar. Yes the front line character has the Vellum Scroll. Yes I tried taking the scroll straight to dusk- 'you are not the couriers'.

I will finish M&M1 first- if I can with uni and work.

Thanks guys
Pete
