Despite joining up on GOG over a year ago, I never bothered to post on the forums until recently.

Unlike most people here at GOG, I only have a Macintosh as my computer. Last year I had a Windows 7 laptop that I borrowed from a friend and an old Windows XP desktop. Unfortunately, I had to give the laptop back and the Windows XP experienced a multitude of viruses and trojans.

The XP eventually gave out and I was unable to retrieve my school files and game files. Instead of having to hassle with it, I dumped XP and decided to purchase a new Macbook. Within minutes I was experiencing faster load times and better quality than what I ever got from XP from the past year.

Now I know that GOG games are mostly Windows-only compatible. But I know ways to get around that issue using CXG (Crossover Games) and Wine. These are programs specifically designed to run Windows-only programs on your Macintosh or Macbook.

Even though it's best to stick with the programs that are already on a Mac, there were some things I wanted to run that I could only run with Windows. I managed to get a few programs running by adding custom prefixes, and letting Wine do the work for me.

So why am I asking this here? Because GOG has a good chunk of games that I grew up playing during the late 1980s/1990s. An era which in my opinion, offered the pioneers of gaming which are still cherished to this day. I was able to play many old classics on my XP, but when it crashed, I didn't want to hassle getting another Windows based processor. So I decided to go Mac.

Might and Magic 6-8 were absolute favorites of mine back 10-13 years ago. The thrill of ongoing dungeons, awesome spells and a plethora of quests got me hooked. Sadly I lost the discs needed to install the games. So to start things off, I then decide to buy MM8 off GOG, hoping that I would be able to play on Mac.

However, when I tried porting that game over to Mac, I received an issue that required me to install C++. Which is no problem when you install it with Windows, but I am still receiving error messages getting MM6 to run on Mac.

Is there anything I missed?

Ok, I downloaded Crossover/Crossover Games and the games work like a charm.

Now I have a problem concerning music. There is no music when I play the game. Sound works fine, but there isn't any music coming out of the game.

Anybody who is an experienced Mac user want to give a helping hand?
So an act of thread necromancy here for the good people searching for "how to install MM6-8 on macos". I realise now I can't post links here for some reason, but there's a free app you can install called Porting Kit. It basically runs Wine with per-game configurations behind the curtains, and it has configurations for MM6-8. I just installed MM7 and it works like a charm, though I have yet to try and install a Grayface patch.

Use the Porting Kit website search to find the pages for each MM game. Good luck!
