I haven't played this game in about a decade, and am having trouble figuring out some of the controls.

First off, I was not able to select my character class in the character creation screen at the start. I was given a human Knight and that was that. I could change the character's name, add the attribute points and select the two skills, but I was not able to change class or race. Is this a bug or was I missing something? I don;t mind playing a knight but I thought I remembered a choice?

Second, how the heck do you set a quick spell? I searched the manual and couldn't find the answer.

You change classes by changing portraits. Each class has 2-4 of them, just change portait until you come across the class you want.

To set a quick spell, open your spell book, click the spell once to highlight it and then click the vertical arrow on the left side.

Does clicking on either arrow next to the word 'Portrait' make no difference? (don't you even hear a 'clicking' sound?)

Are you certain you didn't pick Quick Start option at the beginning? That starts the game with default character.
