The MM7 manual had the runic alphabet translation. Plus, you could decipher them from the spellbook.

MM8 on the other hand has a different one. You can't tell anything from the spellbook, since the number of runes doesn't correspond to the number of letters in a spell.

Could anyone tell me what the text on the attached means (found in Shadowspire).

From top to down it reads in Anglo-Saxon Runes: Uhtcro.

In case of spellbook, this time it is also just gibberish from Alphabet of the Magi letters with some letters mirrored and such. MM8 didn't have such details as fleshed out as MM7.

As you yourself noted, in MM7 it was easily "decipherable", but in MM8 I can't make neither heads nor tails out of those letters. You can look at Alphabet of the Magi and Anglo-Saxon Runes yourself. Ii seems that this time they were taken just like decorative elements without any additional meaning.
