Hi, i'm having a little issue with MM7

I got a thief that has the "stealing" skill. I have a belt that gives +2 stealing, a cloack that gives +3 stealing and a ring that gives +5 stealing.

However, when i look at my "stealing" skill in the "skills" tab of the character, it only displays "bonus : +5", even though it should be +10.

I don't have expert stealing yet, since i didn't invested any skill points in it.

What is causing this? Is the skill bonuses given by equiment capped? Is only one instance of skill bonus allowed per skill?

Please help !

Thanks

The items do not stack, so you only get the highest bonus. You could keep the +5 ring and replace the other two.

Or ditch all three and get something useful. I have never found any reason to use the stealing skill. Even for Mr. Malwick's wand (on Emerald Isle), I just kill him, take the wand and leave.

This is exactly correct. If you don't want to kill Malwick yourself, you could also lure some dragonflies over and let them do it. You'll lose the guard and probably a few other townsfolk in the process, but they are expendable.

Okay thanks.

Does the stats buffing items stack though? The bonuses are displayed in the stats sheet of your character but sometimes the effect don't apply. For instance getting a +X intelligence belt sometimes doesn't increase spell points on my sorcerer

To be more precise, the effect seems completely incoherent. I have a +4 intell belt, and +10 intell gloves. However, both of them grant +4 max spell points. Even though the gloves are +10 and the belt +4 ! Even more strange, when i put both on, i only get +4 max spell points as if i was only wearing one of them...

I believe the stat buffers stack. However, the effects of the stat on mana points varies with the value of the stat.

Items that give Stat bonuses (like to Str) do stack with each other and other sources. However, a bonus based on the stat is only provided at certain break points; check the link provided by Islavin and look at the table for statistics.

To use your example with the belt and gloves: if your Int without either item is 48, then either the belt or the gloves would be enough to push you over the 50 point breakpoint, but the 14 points of belt plus gloves would NOT be enough to also push you over the 75 point breakpoint.

Also, it is worth noting that when trying to buy a skill mastery level that requires a certain level of stats (like GM Merchant requires something like 50 personality), then you need the relevant value in white numbers ("natural" stats). Items will count for this, but spells like Day of the Gods (shows the number in green) will not count for buying skill mastery.
