I've been playing World of Xeen (MM4&5) for some time but now it's suddenly crashing. I tried both the one with speech and without. Different spots in each game. I've tried different saves, and the game just stops and freezes. I was wondering if it was my Doxbox settings. I haven't touched them and it's been working fine until now. Anyone know any changes I SHOULD make to the Dosbox settings?
Is it crashing (i.e. DosBox closing) or freezing?
Could you determine a pattern? Examples: switching maps, entering cities, visiting taverns or guilds?
I had the same problem, usually crashing after leaving a shop but sometime at random. It apparently has to do with the game switching audio devices;

I used install.exe to change the settings to the following;
Music/FX: Roland Canvas/GS
Speech: SoundBlaster 16 0x220 IRQ 5 DMA 1

Autovolume set to Off even though I'm sure that doesn't matter. I was just annoyed with the sound effects being about 13 times louder than the music.

Now it works perfectly. Using Roland MT32 made most of the sound effects work incorrectly, like a buzzer for the creaking doors etc.
The install.exe file must be run via the Settings entry in the start menu of Windows (i.e. the GOG/Might & Magic 4-5 subfolder) and set to the correct configuration of DOSBox.

Using the settings here:
http://www.gog.com/forum/might_and_magic_series/world_of_xeen_no_more_beeping_sound_while_walking_and_other_optimizations

So the correct setting was Soundblaster Pro, IRQ 7, DMA 1

Swords of Xeen has the same issue, but there isn't a start menu entry for the settings and no install.exe file, so one must copy the XEEN.CFG file over from Might & Magic 4-5 after configuring it.

For me the freezes are gone now.

Try using Soundblaster for Music.. The MIDI is horribly glitched.. I have MUNT and when I set World of Xeen to MT-32 it spits out a ton of errors and the game crashes a lot.
