I played through MM6 with the knight-archer-cleric-sorcerer combo. I will never forget that first Baa temple. There are more enemies in that one temple than in most RPGs. The central room isn't too bad, but there are four long tunnels leading to giant rooms of skeletons, spiders and casters. Then you get inside to the altar room stacked with more casters. Then you approach the alter and WHAM... an army.
And don't get me started on Darkmoor.
The trick is to get ahead of the curve by taking coaches and doing Fed Ex quests while clearing the early wilderness areas when possible.
Invisibility is definitely key to MM7. I skipped a LOT of areas by sneaking past monsters to do quests. Later I came back and wiped them out to be thorough.
