Almost like a PSA, I wanted to drop this off for those skeptical about buying. Seeing this on the site for sale yesterday, I considered throwing it in the cart but was moved to doubt when I saw the notice that only LAN play is possible. Just to be sure, I dug out my old discs and gave the game an install (and patch) and yes you can still browse for and join servers. Choice is a little slim, but at least the game is still active. Seemed like everyone is talking about single player, and Google wasn't helpful in determining if online was working.

Don't know how the GOG warchest is set up (or what the deal is for Spearhead/Breakthrough) but Allied Assault is definitely working. Maybe someone can change that notice on the game page? It certainly gave me more than a few moments of doubt. Now that I know it's the full SP/MP package, I'll most likely pick up the GOG version if only just for the sake of having a digital copy.
Yup! The multiplayer works perfectly! But I'm mostly surprised people still play this, its a great game I'm so glad it still has a community!

I'd be willing to set up a server on a LInux box if anybody can supply HOWTO links. IIRC, this runs under WINE.

Search the forums at FPSAdmin.com (http://www.fpsadmin.com). Back in the day that was the definitive reference for dedicated server administration. There's still plenty of good info there.

Thanks, I'll check it out. I have a webserver that serves up static pages over a cable modem connection, so plenty of available bandwidth.

I've located the Linux server binaries and have installed the game using Crossover so I can copy all the files to the server. I'll just need to suss out the config files and startup scripts and should have time next week to get it up and running.
Any more info on this?
I just bought the GOG version and I'm not seeing any servers available.
If someone could point me in the right direction towards getting online, that would be awesome.

Thanks!

I would also like some info on this. I purchased this with the intent on finding a way to play online. Thanks for any help

Gamespy has since closed down the server browser.
since, I cannot post any links at this moment

The Gamespy servers were closed down, so in common with some other EA games of the same age, MOHAA doesn't work in online multiplayer mode 'out of the box'.

However, there is a sort of 'replacement service' that still allows you to play online. You download a program called MOHAA Reborn Query Tool, it adds a shortcut icon to your desktop, and when run it goes off and finds active hosts for all MOHAA games. You can filter to show only servers for the particular game you want, and sort by number of players, ping time, etc.

There isn't a great deal of choice, but it's hardly a new game. MOHAA War Chest is on sale currently, it would be nice if GOG updated their game page with this info, but it's not an officially-run service so I can understand them not adding it.

Thanks for the link to the patch it seems to work perfectly so far with the gog version of the game.

Its good to have the in game multiplayer functionality back without needing to run additional software.
