Game has the option to login to the wargaming.net account. One can not get the pixel ships add-on without logging to wargaming.net account (and maybe connecting his or hers gog.com account to wargaming.net account). I fear that to get any additional content I will be forced to login to wagraming.net account.
So my questions are:
1) What are the benefits from logging into wagraming.net account or is it only some way to "drm-ize" the game?
2) Will the gog.com provide the way to download the additional game content without logging into wargaming.net account or will there be some limitations to the content or gameplay when one does not decide to log into wargaming.net account?

We're looking into this now. Linking your Wargaming.net account is optional.

Pixel Ships advertised as a part of the Collectors Edition when I bought it (yet oddly removed now from the store page).

The fact that it calls for linking your Steam account (!) to your Wargaming account when you try to enable these ships. This is not cool.

If this is a bug this needs to be dealt with.
This would be totally uncool if linking gog.com account to wg.net account would be necessary to download the rest of the add-ons (pixel ships, Terran Khanate, art book, soundtrack). And - yes - I also wonder what happened to pixel ships - they mysteriously disappeared from the game's description.

I can definitely confirm the remaining CE content will not require linking an account. I'm working on getting more info on the pixel ships situation.

I have an update on this question:

During development we are testing out account linking and granting an associated reward for doing so. Since pixel ships are the only optional content available right now, we're using that for the test.

When the game enters retail release, pixel ships will not require linking a Wargaming.net account to gain access to them, if you have purchased the Collector's Edition.

OK, thank You for the answer. One more question - where the information about linked accounts is stored? If I decide to enter my wg.net account details in MoO then my wg.net account will be linked with my gog.com account. Where this link is stored - on GOG side or on WG side? Will this link be permanent or will I be able to login later in MoO to a different wg.net account?
Pixel Ships are bugged. They show up properly in Ship Design (as pixelated), but on galaxy map I only see the regular old ships.

However, wargaming.net linking worked great.
On the subject, would it be possible later on to connect to Wargaming.net without Galaxy intervention? I've managed to avoid Galaxy up until now, and I'd personally prefer to connect directly for the multiplayer.

This is a very good question. I don't have an immediate answer for it but will ask.
When you start a New Game / Match Setup, select SHOW ADVANCED SETTINGS.

Random events, PIXEL SHIPS, Pirates, Monsters, Etc....

(See attached image.)

Note: I linked my account to them, so unsure if Pixel Ships might be grayed out or something,

I bet another player will let us know real soon.

Does this apply to Moo 2 and 3 and 1

No. The wargaming.net account login possibility is present only in the newest Master of Orion: Conquer the Stars.

I've attached screenshot of the advanced options of my installation. I have not logged to wargaming.net account. The only difference I see is that "Pixel ships" are grayed out.
