I have had fixed this issue for me....

I had only Microsoft Visual c++ 2010 installed on my laptop.

I download Microsoft Visual c++ 2012 redistributable from:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-US/download/details.aspx?id=30679

For my x64 windows 7, i download and install vcredist_x86.exe, vcredist_x64.exe,

After that MOO from GOG run fine, menu worked, and game play )))
Thanks a lot. Had the same issue and solved it following your guidance.
would one of those work for a win 10?
worked for my win 7, not on 10
For those that this doesn't work for, try removing the d3d9.dll file from the games installation directory.

Worked for me, on Windows 10, but I hadn't seen the above fix so I didn't get to try installing Microsoft Visual c++ 2012

This corrected for me as well. I apparently had the x86 runtime but not the x64 - after installing - game works great.

FYI: Windows 10 new laptop, installed from GoG Galaxy today 5/30/2016 - did not work until I manually installed the above.

Not working without manually installing vcredist_x86 vcredist_x64.
