I have both MoM versions here, the Classic and the new Slitherine one. I don't like Slitherine version, and I don't like Caster of Magic mod.

I just want to run the Classic version on my WinXP PC with Community patch. Is it possible? Seravy even removed the links to old 1.51 version from his site and from MoM wiki (and this version has been completed long before Slitherine popped up, and it has not been "collaboration" despite the statement on MoM wiki Community Patch page).

Situation slowly drifts towards complete idiocy since Slitherine grabbed the rights for MoM.

I paid for this game with my money here on GOG long ago just to play it, and I don't care a hella hell who the hell are the "rights owners" now.
First the WinXP support has been dropped (although WinXP users still hold the third place around the world, after Win10 and Win7, they are more numerous than Vista and Win8 users, that's the freshest rating, google it). Well, OK, at least the Classic version is still here.
Then Slitherine came, purchased everything including Seravy, his patch and his silence, and thinking they are all right now.
No, you are not all right, gentlemen. Your behavior is not very clever, you know. Prohibiting and fencing everything with stupid means will lead you nowhere. Every fence has two sides. And this is still a big question who is inside and who is outside.
no idea.but like any GOG game, someone probably torrented the older patched versions somewhere. or direct download from a website/MEGA.nz/GoogleDrive. google it?
OK, I just had to have my head f***ed through to play a game I payed for.

1. I installed Classic version.
2. I installed Slitherine version in another location.
3. I cut the Community patch folder from Slitherine version.
4. I cut all the unneeded files from Slitherine Community patch version, comparing it with my saved old unofficial patch version 1.51 RC7.
5. I pasted the leftover files into my Classic MoM folder replacing the old files.

Now I have 1.52 Community patch version on my Classic MoM installation.

Question: why should I f*** my head through to play it the way I like? Is it so hard and painful to place Community patch as a separate download for any owners of a game since there's Classic version is still downloadable?

Hello,
Would this be useful to you? I downloaded the 1.51 RC 8 when it was up and it is on my personal google drive.

O, thanks a lot! Don't you know by any chance is there any significant difference between 1.51RC8 and 1.52?

Anyway if there would be any future updates to Community patch the separate download would be a good move from Slitherine/Seravy side.

Well, there was RC9, RC10, RC11, and v151Final inbetween...

The reason the patches have been removed from the net is that they contain the executables themselves, which we're not supposed to host any more. I'm afraid that unless I myself come up with a patcher or a txt patch to use with seravy's fileset.exe the Community Patch will not be available on its own again. It's simply not that important for the other parties, especially when considering the fact that the original game can probably still be downloaded freely by anyone savvy enough, meaning that making the patch individually available would only encourage piracy. Not that I actually care about that, but I don't have time to write a patcher either. Wanna help?

Thank you, I agree with you 100%, particularly since I am one of those WinXP users

A question for you (or anyone else that knows): You said that you were able to use the combination of the Slitherine and classic versions to build a patched classic version. But what is the difference between the patched classic version and the Slitherine version? That is, apart from containing that horrible launcher that requires .Net 4 and doesn't work on XP.

I'll repeat your steps if there's a difference, but otherwise the 2 versions embedded within the Slitherine version's subdirs seem to be working for me so far (1.31 and 1.52; I've been learning how to play using 1.31, but haven't spent much time with either version, although after setting up dosbox links did test that they both started and I could click on some menus and such).

Any info would be appreciated - thanks!

(All: I know this is a slightly older thread and on some forums some people are not in favor of anyone posting to an older thread, not sure if this forum is one of them, but in any case my question directly applies to the discussion so hopefully it is reasonable and I certainly don't mean any inappropriateness by doing so.)

There is no other difference. At least based on that description of how the patched classic version was obtained.

Here's a funny thing about WinXP though: v1.31 MoM can actually run on it without DOSBox. On the other hand, v1.50+ (including the CP) can't, as far as I know, at least not without undoing the unit table extension patches.

That's good news; I won't have to change anything else, then. Although I may try running it directly from Windows since now I'm curious to try that ...

Thank you for your reply, I really appreciate it
