I guess this means no more Larry :/

Who has the rights to the LSL franchise? Couldn't Lowe make another Larry game with a different developer?
I don't know about the rights. But if Lowe really retired wanting to spend his remaining years with his family & friends then I wouldn't expect another Larry game.

Edit. I think it was mentioned somewhere that Replay Games/Paul Trowe has the rights. I hope they'll just let Larry die instead of making crappy sequels.

Codemasters owns the rights to Larry.

They gave replay games permission to make "remake" games. But unfortunately there are a lot of problems behind the scenes with Replay Games, and unfortunately some of it isn't quite behind the scenes. There is some public controversy as well surrounding certain individual/s.

Based on what I have heard about the Replay Games, I can't say that I'm surprised about this.
Too bad - I was hoping that remakes of other Larry games would come out...

At least we got Leisure Suit Larry Reloaded.

Rock Paper Shotgun (of all places) ran by far the best and most comprehensive article on the messy Replay/LSL situation: http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2013/12/13/the-messy-saga-of-replays-paul-trowe-as-al-lowe-quits/

Can't say that I'm particularly sorry that there won't be any more Larry remakes. I'd much rather see people like "Larry Reloaded"-writer Josh Mandel go ahead and create an exciting new game without of the constricts of some 25 year old cash cow IP.

I'm not particularly interested about remakes (as I have the originals), although I did enjoy playing the Larry Reloaded. What I was hoping was that we would have seen Larry 8.

While you might consider new Larry game unnecessary, I would have gladly welcomed it, because I have been fan of the series since the late 80's. Revival of the old series isn't a bad thing (especially if those series my all time favourites), I did really enjoy new Monkey Island game which came out few years ago and was bitterly disappointed that we didn't see new King's Quest game. I don't know if it's because I'm getting old, but 25 year old IPs have more appeal to me than brand new IPs (although only as long as it's done properly and not in attempt to just make quick cash).

Wow. If even half of the claims in that article are true, I'm now glad I didn't choose to donate to the Kickstarter -- and I'm feeling ambivalent about even buying the thing at all. Paul Trowe sounds like a real piece of work, and not someone I particularly want to give money to.

I'm with you there, though personally I would've wanted to see Lust in Space (the original planned direction for Larry 8, as teased at the end of 7) manifest itself in some form, or maybe one final Space Quest game to finally wrap up the semi-cliffhanger ending of SQ6. That's the part of me that hates leaving unfinished business on the table, however.
I am glad I bought this thing on sale! I will help Al Lowe out with his next project if he chooses to do one, not giving more money than I could to these clowns.
I liked the remake. The animation was very limited and felt almost like a flash game, but it was still entertaining. At least, it's better visually than the original, so it's sad to see him go.
I didn't play the remake, but it's too bad there were some issues that led to a fallout.

It would be great to see Al Lowe do another game, even if it's not Larry.
