Game won't go higher than "Medium" on the Texture Resolution. I set it to High, apply, it reloads and its still on medium. I might look for a config file in a second, but does anyone know why this is? I'm fairly certain the old hardware test for this game worked perfectly. 512mb should be enough considering I can run bf3 on medium settings, STALKER on high etc etc.

edit: can't see a config file in game directory..

GoG's page says that 512 VRAM is the minimum requirement.
Now, it may actually run the game with less than that, but perhaps that's why the program keeps bouncing you back to medium...thinks that's all your 512 can handle? (even if it's wrong) lol. :(

There's a config file in the Almost Human folder in My Documents, grimrock.cfg.
I have 512MB on my 8800GT and it works fine on high.Try setting textureResolution = 3 in the config file.
opened up the config and it's already at 3... very strange. If I set it to medium or low it'll correctly change the CFG to 2 and 1, but even if the CFG is at 3 it will not change from medium. Game is forcing medium for some reason. Might download latest drivers (even though it worked with the grimrock hwtest)
Did you force AA or something in the ATI options?
Nope, CCC options are all off. I've tried disabling 2nd screen too, no dice. I emailed the devs and got a super fast reply, haven't found a solution yet but I sent them my dxdiag so I guess they'll look at it when they have time. On their forums there are some notes for a patch in the works:

Hey Beck,

Here is the cfg that i managed to play around with just to get the game working and I'll post it here to see if you can play around with it to see if you can get it working...

Here is my Cfg configuration:

mouseLook = true
muteMusic = false
textureResolution = 3
displayMode = 2
textureFilter = 1
autoSave = true
arrowIcons = false
resolution = "1024 x 768"
invertY = false
verticalSync = 1
disableDamageTexts = false
muteSounds = false
ssaoQuality = 1
hideItemProperties = false
shadowQuality = 1
move_forward = 87
move_backward = 83
strafe_left = 65
strafe_right = 68
turn_left = 81
turn_right = 69
rest = 82
map = 9
character_sheet_1 = 49
character_sheet_2 = 50
character_sheet_3 = 51
character_sheet_4 = 52
Thanks but config settings aren't the solution. Everything works but high texture resolution, despite config settings. Haven't gotten a fix yet but it's not a huge issue.
This issue will most likely be fixed with the latest patch.

It seemed to be due to incorrect reading of the GPU's memory, seemed to happen to 4870 / 4850 cards. Will update this post when I've confirmed the patch solves this issue.

edit: Patch 1.1.4 fixes this issue.
