I've had the game for awhile, but just finally got to checking it out. I looked up a guide for character creation and based my party off that (already want to start a new party ...).

Tank - Fighter, Human, Armor and Maces
Damage dealer - Fighter, Lizardman, Unarmed now (maybe armor later, I read HIGH Unarmed works well with no armor at all)
Glass Cannon - Mage, Insectoid, Fire only
Ranged - Rogue, Human, Dodge and Missle Weapons (though she's been using a spear for awhile now)

Whole party is leveled up to 3 (I don't understand the xp split - no deaths, but diff xp's per member)

Anyway, I'm on dungeon level 2 now and here's some great noob questions:

1. Items that I don't need or plan on using (multiple spears, daggers, swords, scrolls, etc) - just drop them right? I'm keeping rocks and unique items, but my inventory is getting full of weapons and armor I won't use, scrolls from other magic schools I won't cast, scrolls that just say stuff I've already done, etc.

2. I know to keep food and after a few restarts realized not to eat any until it got really low, but while looking at char creation I noticed an alchemy tab and realized I might be eating ingredients. I have a theory - ingredients stack while food does not - is this correct?

Okay I thought I had more but I guess that is it.

Thanks

Looks good, overall, although I have a few bits of advice.

You've probably realised this, but whoever is standing on the front lines with your tank - I assume it's your "damage dealer" - will be attacked as often as the tank, and hence will need some sort of tanky abilities of their own. You can do this by protection (ie armour) or evasion; it's typically best to choose one of these to focus on rather than doing a bit of each. Unarmed lends itself well to evasion, so I'd suggest that; there are also items of clothing you can find which add to evasion, and if you find them, you'll probably be better off having your lizardman wear those than armour. For that reason, I'd suggest against putting points in armour, unless you finish off the unarmed tree and still haven't found many of the aforesaid items. Oh, and note that you only need to have one empty hand to use unarmed combat - you can put a shield in your other hand for more evasion, for instance.

For your mage, I'd suggest you put a few points in spellcraft at some point, as most of the "mage" items require it. You might also want to consider diversifying into another element later on, to deal with fire-immune enemies.

Your ranged character shouldn't need dodge too much, unless you plan on putting her into the front lines every now and then. I believe it only really helps against melee attacks, so will only be of use when you're attacked from behind, or your front two party members have died (at which point, things have gone terribly, terribly wrong and a total party kill is likely whatever happens). What you've done so far shouldn't hurt, but I'd focus just on missile weapons from now on, if I were you. Spears are useful in the early game, but because you can't put skill points into them, you shouldn't expect to keep using them later on.

Party members only get half xp from an enemy if they didn't hit it (or perhaps if they didn't deal damage: I've heard conflicting information)

Correct. You might want to write down the scrolls which give spells (and potion recipes, later on) for future playthroughs, though.

Not sure what alchemy tab you're looking at in character creation, but that is more or less correct. To the best of my knowledge, there is exactly one food (ie non-stacking) item which is also used in a potion recipe, though.
Thanks, I do think I'm going to restart though.

I don't like the whole missile weapon or throwing skills - i keep running out of arrows and have to scramble during combat to put the other 3 arrows in her left hand during combat, then again to put the spear there. I'm only at level 3 and the previous levels are fresh in my mind so I think I can breeze through them with a new party.

I'm thinking of switching to a fighter and a Lizard rogue unarmed assassin in the front row and an ice mage and fire mage in the back.

The mages would both be insectoid. The fighter I'm thinking Minotaur but I don't know enough about them yet.

Oh, and I meant to say "the char creation guide" i looked at and the alchemy link along the side. Not sure why I said "tab".

Thanks for the tips! I'm starting to get a good hang of this.
*Nope, not that party. Close though.

Knowing better how the game plays (I was taking my sweet time that first play, equipping and stuff, making decisions, etc) that by level 3 I was almost out of torches. Now I know what I'm doing.

New Party:

12
34

1)Minotaur Fighter, Armor and Swords, Headhunter and Aggressive
2)Lizardman Rogue, Assassination Daggers and Dodge, Evasive and Skilled
3)Insectoid Mage, Ice Magic and Spellcraft, Strong Mind and Skilled
4)Insectoid Mage, Air Magic and Spellcraft, Strong Mind and Skilled

The Invisibility spell in Air magic should work real good with my assassin. I'm not sure if you can max 3 skills in this game, if not I need Assassination and Daggers maxed - hopefully there be enough to at least get me somewhat high in Dodge.

Sorry for the late reply. You'll typically get about 55-60 skill points over the course of the game, which is enough to max one skill and put a few points in another, if you have one skill you particularly want to max. It is technically possible to grind an unlimited amount of xp if you really want to, but that's not really necessary.
