trying to play the game, after the opening cut scene and loads the game, when the main character awaken and a mysterious voice talks, it repeats it self twice, both characters do, its a an nonpaying problem, anyone else having this issue?
Some sound cards are not compatible with SR1 and cause the sound to repeat twice. Not sure if there will ever be a fix for that...

Just checking have you tried booting it in software mode instead? Its worth a shot.

just tried that samething
Same issue here, with an onboard and a PCI sound card. This completely destroyed the gameplay and sucks even out of cinematics. Wasted 6 bucks... *sigh*
Your best option now is contacting support.
I don't think there's much GOG can do about this issue.

BTW, I just played with some options and noticed that setting compatibility for the game to Win98/Me (I'm using WinXP), and setting Hardware Acceleration to Basic (not None) in Win audio settings makes things much better. Will see how this works.

and how do you mess with the audio settings?
Sorry, I never used Windows 7 (and probably never will), so I cannot say what should be done to get it work. On WinXP, in Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices, "Volume" tab, under "Speaker Settings", there is the "Advanced" button. After pressing the button, a new window opens with two tabs: "Speakers" and "Performance". Under the latter, there is a "Hardware Acceleration" slider. "Basic" is the second notch.

Try running the game in windows 89/ME compatibillity mode, worked wonders under my old xp laptop where I also had the sound issues.

Did you try changing the compatibility settings as an administrator, not standard user?

Same thing, Both onboard and PCI one do not work with this game. I'm currently playing the PSX version through the emulator. Works like a charm. 6 $ are officially thrown away.
Same issue here. The first cutscene, when raziel wakes up, is totally messed up by the sound problem. The windows 89/ME compatibillity mode does remove that problem, but then the game becomes very jerky and unplayable to me, even on lowest settings.
same problem here, i have onboard sound from realthek and this crackling sound makes this game unplayable...legacy of kain lives from his audio effects and very good music :)
i hope a fix coming soon for this
