I've killed the Dragon in the Volcano caves. I got all the piles of money, but when I go to pick up the shard she dropped, nothing happens.

The shard is shining on the cave floor, but I cannot pick it up. The cursor "hand" does not appear...

Reloaded an older save..no change, quit the game and reloaded an old save, no change.

I did kill her several times before I hit the last lava flow.

Help.. this is a game breaker, I need the shard..

i'm not sure if its possible to miss this (long time since i played), but did you actually pick up the item to collect the shards in the draracle caves?
