I load this up, and it have a wierd colour scheme.

I use Windows 7, i have the same problem in C&C 1 and C&C Red Alert, but never found the solution.

But i search around, some other people seem to have same problem, they recommend to close explorer.exe in task manager, i did but with no luck.

Another funny thing, i wanted to make a screenshot with FRAPS to show what it looks like, but the screenshot looks fine!!! with no strange colors.

No, i am not going crazy...

Hi,

Are you using the 32bit version or the 64-bit version of Windows 7? I have noticed during my time with the game that it runs best when you set the compatibility to Windows XP Service Pack 2 and run the game as Administrator.

Also, and this may seem to a be a silly question due to the age of the game, but have you updated your graphic card drivers?

Let me know if I can be of further help. If this problem persists then I would recommend sending us an email via the Support link for the game and ensure that your DxDiag file is attached so that we can get to the bottom of this problem.
Hello, and thank you for the reply.

I am using 64bit Win7 and i have the latest AMD drivers 13.1.

I have also tried all the compatibility settings possible. But none of them seems to make any difference

KKND Extreme, Command & Conquer and C&C Red Alert all share this problem :(

It seems to be some kind of DirectDraw problem.

You can try search for starcraft color fix and many topics pop up aswell.
It seems many StarCraft 1 players share the same problem.

Many of them fix it by add some to the registry

Example for Starcraft 64bit:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DirectDraw\Compatibility\StarCraft116]
"Flags"=hex:00,08,00,00
"Name"="StarCraft.EXE"
"ID"=hex:ca,89,65,49

i tried to add:

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\DirectDraw\Compatibility\KKNDgame]
"Flags"=hex:00,08,00,00
"Name"="kkndgame.exe"
"ID"=hex:ca,89,65,49

but no luck, maybe you know what to edit?

Those aren't beta drivers by any chance?

Also, in some cases rolling back one or two driver releases may also help to solve the problem although I don't generally support doing that in case it messes up any other games.

To tell you the truth, this might be best solved by sending us an email to Support with any and all screenshots and your DxDiag in the email. Perhaps the more information we receive the better the chances we can solve this. thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

As far as hex editing goes, I myself don't exactly know what needs to be done in order to properly utilize this fix. Our tech ninjas will know more than I do :D.

Hey again,

It was, in fact, a driver problem.

I just tried to install the 13.3 beta drivers, and now the problem is gone.

Strange :) i did not think todays drivers could screw up old games like this.

But thanks for help anyway.
Recently downloading this game but the colours are all messed up. Tried changing compatibility settings but still nothing. Any ideas? I'm running Win7 64 bit GeForce GTX 550 Ti with latest drivers?

Please write to our Support department as that issue you're experiencing may be a bit beyond simple fixes that I can offer on the forum. Thanks :D
Just bought the game and messed up color palette was the first thing I run into. I recall having exactly the same problem with Starcraft1 so there is a simple solution not involving dangerous/tedious operations like downgrading drivers.

The problem is caused by win7_64 not being designed to work with 256 color palette some old games were made for. As KKND for unknown reason does not allow you to alt+tab out of the game you have to use the three finger combination which brings up task manager screen (notice the colors now look messed up for windows UI - this is how win7 looks like on 256 color palette) where pressing cancel brings you back to the game. And that's it. Problem solved. No compatibility options were even required for me. In case it still does not work for you try the 256 color compatibility option and repeat the procedure.
Thanks Walen your a legend that works perfectly
If above solutions don't work for someone (like me), try DxWnd - utility which allows running any old game in window mode. It helped me fix KKND, HoMM2, Settlers 3 and Total Annihilation. Also, to avoid breaking immersion by seeing desktop in window mode, you can try Mr. Hyde (an utility, which adds black borders around any window).

This actually worked for me, however my issue is the damn shortcuts don't work.
Hi, i have weird colors under my win7-64 homepremium aswell

i know tihs topic is month old but maybe i have same problem.

Look at the attachment

I have this at startup and the dots flicker, when on menu i have this but then lying over the menu, i can hardly see anything and cant click on anything, everything is messed up.

I am not a tech guy, but it looks like a graphics driver/board issue....

are there any setting like making a profile under nvidia to disable things for that .exe?
I did so on winXP 32bits for Sanitarium in order to make it run under winxp.
When i start that game nvidea loads a profile and apparently disables some stuff.
